Fifteen hours will be livestreamed on April 9 & 10, 2021 with on demand playback available for 30 days post event. Complete the additional five hours on your schedule until May 10, 2021.

The Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association (AOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. The AOMA designates this program for a maximum of 37.0 hours of AOA Category 1-A CME credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

The Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AOMA designates this live activity for a maximum of 37.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Application will be filed for AAFP Prescribed Credits. Determination of credits is pending.

AOMA Annual Convention Cancellation Policy: All requests for refunds must be in writing and received by March 10, 2021. A $50 processing fee will be deducted from the registration fee. Refunds will not be available after March 10, 2021. A credit for a future CME event may be issued.

 As a pediatric and internal medicine trained clinician educator with a passion to empower families and optimize well-being, Dr. Tala Dajani enjoys for caring for children at Mission Children’s Hospital in Asheville, NC.  She was a clinical educator at ATSU-SOMA from 2017-2021. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston in 1998, pediatric endocrinology fellowship training from Phoenix Children’s Hospital in 2005 and Master’s in Public Health from the University of Arizona in 2005. She cared for children as an endocrinology faculty member at Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) from 2005 to 2010. At PCH, she served as the founding medical director of the diabetes center and lipid clinic, leading the program to the first national accreditation and center of excellence status. Dr Dajani operated and cared for patients at Pediatric Endocrinology of Phoenix from 2010 to 2017 during which time she furthered her expertise and experience in the endocrine care of the survivor of childhood cancer, special needs population, transgender and those living with cystic fibrosis. In 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, her peers voted Dr. Dajani as a National Top Doctor. At SOMA, Dr. Dajani participates in the planning and implementation of the Osteopathic Wellness Lifestyle and Culinary Experiential Curriculum. She cares for children at Children’s Rehabilitative Services endocrine clinic weekly (2005-present). Dr Dajani enjoys playing viola, teaching yoga, exploring nature and practicing mindfulness.

Dr. Leff is a gastroenterologist in private practice in Mesa, Ariz. He has been with Central Arizona Medical Associates for the past 19 years. He is also an adjunct assistant professor, Division of Clinical Education, Midwestern University - Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Leff is a graduate of Des Moines University in 1991 and did his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. During his fellowship, he was involved with early hepatitis C treatment options, and when he moved to Arizona, he became a member of the Board of Directors for the American Liver Foundation – Arizona Chapter. Dr. Leff currently serves on the Medical Advisory Board.  He has served as the Assistant Medical Director for Central Arizona Endoscopy for the last nine years and recently became a member of the Board of Directors for the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association in 2016.  He speaks for a number of different pharmaceutical companies on the topics of hepatitis C, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome.

Melissa Petrick is a registered nurse with over 18 years of practice in a myriad of health care settings. She obtained her BSN and MS degrees from the University of Arizona College of Nursing in 2002 and 2004. Bedside experience includes primary care, acute care, chronic disease management, and outpatient care. Melissa has had a unique career with a blend of nursing practice within in-patient, out-patient, academia, research, telemedicine, as well as, educational and business experience in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2018, she obtained her post-masters family nurse practitioner (FNP) certificate from Grand Canyon University. As an FNP, she has had experience in both adult and pediatric primary care settings. Melissa’s most recent endeavor includes her current position as a Community Medical Liaison in the respiratory therapeutic area as well as adjunct faculty at Grand Canyon University’s College of Nursing. She is passionate about ongoing health care quality improvement, both as an individual and organization, collaborative practice between all facets of healthcare, empowering providers and patients with knowledge to enable patients to serve as their own health care advocate, and challenging students in the academic environment. Personally, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, a pharmacist, and their three children. Most weekends you can find her on the sidelines of a basketball court cheering on her sons, hiking, or having an impromptu kitchen dance party. 

Melissa is ecstatic to have the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Dajani on a very passionate topic, diabetes. She has volunteered for years at the local ADA chapter’s diabetes camp, Camp AZDA, as both a diabetic counselor and medical staff. Melissa has lived with type 1 diabetes for almost 36 years. She has the unique lens of both a patient and a provider. Melissa hopes that in sharing her perspective she will help dissolve barriers for both patients and providers alike.

Dr. Bob is a Public Health doc who has held several State and Local positions over the years, including State Epidemiologist for Arizona and 12 years as the Director for the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. He was Interim Director for the Pima County Health Department when the pandemic hit, which continues to ruin his retirement plans.  He is currently the Interim Executive Director of The Arizona Partnership for Immunization.

He’s been passionate about the value of immunizations throughout his career, yet the pandemic continues to teach him a lot that he never really understood.  He wants to share what he has learned about community acceptance of vaccines, and the implications of that and other immunization system issues on our future.

Dr. Kemper is past President of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association, serving now as the Chair of the Professional Education Committee.  She graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981, is Board Certified in Family Practice and is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.  She has worked for Midwestern University for the past 13 years, serving as the Dean of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) since 2007.  

Dr. Kemper has practiced as a family physician since 1982, starting her career with the National Health Service Corps, providing care for the underserved population in South Phoenix.  She also served as Director of Medical Education and Family Medicine Residency Program Director for Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital from 1993 to 2007.  In addition, she served as the Chief of Staff at Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital from 2005 to 2007. 

Besides her duties as Dean of AZCOM, Dr. Kemper maintains an active practice of family medicine at Midwestern University Clinic on campus, where she served as Medical Director from 2008 to 2015.  She also serves on the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation as an Executive Committee member, the Board of Directors of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners as the Chair Elect, and the American Osteopathic Association House of Delegates representing Arizona.  She is a member and past Chair of the Board of Deans of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.
